Microsoft has sent some members of games media dummy Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Having a recreation of the real thing is helpful in comparing sizes, but also in picking it apart in ways Microsoft typically wouldn’t do. One question that’s been on the mind of fans since the Xbox Series X was first revealed concerns the bottom, built-in stand. Xbox Series X is designed as a standing console, of course, but Microsoft previously confirmed that you could place it horizontally as you would with other consoles. It’s going to look strange, particularly because the power button’s Xbox logo does not rotate. And now, we have another reason to maybe just keep it standing up. IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey received the dummy consoles, and spent the day answering fan questions. He confirmed that the stand cannot be removed. To see this content please enable targeting cookies. So just FYI! — Ryan McCaffrey (@DMC_Ryan) September 10, 2020 “I couldn’t find a way to take it off, and I just confirmed with Microsoft that it is indeed not removable,” he said. The stand also appears to aid with the airflow at the bottom of the console. Allowing Xbox Series X owners to remove it could create problems with cooling, so it makes sense there. It doesn’t make it look any less ugly, however.
