Very little has changed in Verdansk since launch, the battle royale map in Call of Duty: Warzone. Though you could consider the running meta game of locked bunkers and such to be the map’s way of evolving, outside of some of the bunkers themselves opening, the layout remained the same throughout. Now, according to VGC, the map may finally see meaningful changes in Season 5. The site says the changes will be twofold. First, the stadium, which sits near the game’s downtime area, will open to reveal a big interior where players can find loot and fight. Indeed, this particular change has been teased through an official screenshot released recently, which also shows hard wires we’ll likely use to climb to the top of the stadium like we can today with tall buildings through their elevator shafts.
The report also says a running train will be added to the map, which players will be able to board and loot, similar to the moving trains in Apex Legends and, more recently, PUBG. This is all part of a map update meant to tie into the next Call of Duty game, rumoured to be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. References to Black Ops series protagonist Frank Woods were recently datamined from the game’s files. The voice lines dug up are said to belong to Season 5’s headline operator, which is believed to be Woods himself. As previously confirmed, Activision plans for Warzone to live alongside future Call of Duty games, so expect more content from the next game and beyond to arrive. It’s still not clear how all of this is going to play, given that Warzone is built on Infinity Ward’s tech and Modern Warfare mechanics, but we’ll have to wait and see. Season 5 kicks off August 4.
