The news comes from the official Insomniac Games Twitter page, where the studio posted a tweet about the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales performance mode. Check it out below. “Swing through the city like never before on PS5 with an optional 4K / 60fps Performance Mode,” reads the tweet. The accompanying video shows off the new mode, zooming in on an airborne, back-flipping Miles Morales as he traverses the Manhattan skyline in style. It’s not currently clear why this is an “optional” performance mode - I don’t know about you, but I’m not quite sure why anybody would choose to turn it off in that case. Maybe it’s to do with ray tracing, in that running something at 4K 60fps disables ray tracing, and vice versa. Either way, if you’re keen to find out where Miles is swinging, it’s probably worth jumping back into Marvel’s Spider-Man given that someone found the area where the first Spider-Man: Miles Morales trailer took place in Insomniac’s previous game. On that note, it’s worth noting that Marvel’s Spider-Man, in which Miles Morales was one of three playable characters, made it onto our list of the best PS4 games to play in 2019. It holds up in 2020, too. It’s also important to mention that Marvel’s Spider-Man was only recently dethroned as Sony’s fastest-selling PS4-exclusive, having been usurped by The Last of Us Part 2 last month. However, you won’t need to have played it in order to jump into Insomniac’s next Spidey game given that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone title. Apparently, players can expect it to be similar in scope to a spin-off game like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Spider-Man: Miles Morales releases Holiday 2020 exclusively on PS5. Provided that there are already multiple PS5 special editions in production, it’s not unreasonable to assume that a Miles Morales PS5 could be in the works. If you’re curious about what that might look like, mock-up artist BossLogic already designed a Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5, and it’s pretty great.
