Doom and Hades may not have much in common, beyond being critical darlings, but their music is both memorable and so fitting of their styles that it’s hard to experience them without such a core component of their makeup. But what if you could Doom-ify the Hades soundtrack? After all, the two are made up of banging medleys of guitar solos and an upbeat spirit to their soundtrack. Musician and YouTuber Geoffrey Day decided to go through the effort of turning Hades’ soundtrack into music that would be fit for Doom and Doom Eternal. They chronicled the entire process of making Hades sound like Doom in a YouTube video, which we’ve embedded below. It starts off with Day exploring how Hades composer Darren Korb and Doom’s Mick Gordon each work, and how they compose. The difference in style, leanings and hardware between the two composers is stark, which comes across in their work. The video goes over how Day analysed some of the two game’s most iconic tracks, and essentially tried to replicate their respective style with different music. It all becomes clear towards the end when he previews the results, but the Doom version of Hades’ Out of Tartarus is where it all comes together.
