The awkwardly long-titled re-release of Ubisoft’s 2D beat ’em-up is bringing Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Knives Chau, Stephen Stills, and more besides back to consoles and PC early next year. As per a new announcement from the publisher, we can expect to see Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game - Complete Edition arrive on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Stadia on January 14, 2021 (it’ll also be available on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X via backwards compatibility).
You may remember the game from its first outing on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, back from when it originally launched in August 2010. The game was delisted four years later, and there’s been widespread confusion about why it was removed from storefronts (and why it’s been unavailable) ever since. Finally, though, we’ll once again be able to team up with up to three other human players to battle your way through waves of enemies in order to defeat the League of Evil Exes. If you’ve never picked up the game before, but are interested in the title (which is partly inspired by Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic series and Edgar Wright’s movie), here’s a quick rundown: you can share health and coins with your teammates, compete in mini-games like Dodgeball, and challenge each other to a last-one-standing duel – all in a Streets of Rage-inspired beat ’em-up that acts like a love-letter to nerd culture from the early 00s. That about covers it… If you’re thinking about picking the game up physically, you may have a short wait yet – Ubisoft hasn’t announced anything formally, but it looks like a physical version of the title may be in the works with original series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – The Complete Edition, which includes Knives Chau and Wallace Wells DLC, will be available from January 14, 2021.
