The Monster Hunter film (which has recently caused controversy thanks to a racist line that offended Chinese audiences) was initially slated for release in April 2021, and was then moved up to a December 25 release date. Now, Sony Pictures has confirmed that the movie will be moved up again – this time with a release date of December 18, some 12 days ahead of when it was planned before. The new release date for the film arrived alongside an announcement that the offending racist line has been scrubbed from all versions of the film ahead of its international release. Recently, Anderson confirmed that the movie was inspired by Metal Gear Solid, of all things. The film went into production in September 2018 with a budget that’s estimated to be in the region of $60 million, and Anderson noted that decision to make Milla Jovovich’s character a member of the military was inspired by the Hunting Quests side missions for in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The first look at the film came in February 2020 with posters showing off the main characters and a trailer debuted in October. Anderson already is working on sequels for the Monster Hunter movie. Let’s hope its new release date – away from Wonder Woman 1984, interestingly – gets a reception worthy of that kind of investment.
