The release of Cyberpunk 2077 has been a complicated one. The game largely garnered positive reviews, but the backlash has certainly hit, especially inconcerns to last-gen consoles. Reports of the game running terribly on the Xbox One and PS4 are rampant. CD Projekt Red even put out a statement saying players could get a refund if they choose. It seems that no special avenues or treatment have been afforded to the developer though. In an investor call, CD Projekt clarified its stance on refunds. Joint-CEO Marcin Iwinski said, “We are not encouraging gamers to return to the game. We hope they will give us a chance to improve the game on the original consoles. There was one fix last weekend. There is another coming in seven days. But there is an option." “We give them an option. The easiest way is to ask the retailer for the refund. If that is not possible, we are also providing help with that. Later in the call, SVP of business development Michal Nowakowski clarified that there is nothing special to this refund policy. He said: “You have to understand, Microsoft and Sony, for every product that is released digitally on their storefronts have refund policies. Despite various articles that have shown up, that things are being opened just for us, It’s actually not true.” “These policies are in place and have always been in place. They are not opened up specifically for us. Anybody who has purchased any title on PlayStation Network or Microsoft’s storefront can ask for a refund.” With that being the case, it seems like consumers are at the mercy of retailers. This leaves some confusion, especially with Sony asking players to be patient and wait for patches.
