On HDMI 2.1 VRR-compatible TVs and PC monitors, VRR dynamically syncs the refresh rate of the display to the PS5 console’s graphical output. What this does is enhance the visual performance for PS5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts, such as frame pacing issues and screen tearing. This will make gameplay feel smoother through seamlessly rendered scenes, graphics will look crisper, and input lag is reduced. Hot off the heels of yesterday’s action–packed screens, Square Enix has today released the opening cutscene of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Not only is this version of the opening significantly longer, it also features new orchestrated music. The beginning of the cutscene is entirely new, featuring new shots of Midgar. It doesn’t get to Aerith until about two minutes in. Cloud’s entrance is given a bit more panache, too, thanks to the upgraded visuals and sounds....

The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla gameplay teaser, the one that was pitched as a gameplay look but ended up being just cut from cinematic moments in-game, was a good trailer. It showed the game’s world, new melee animations, raiding, long ship combat and more of Valhalla’s core features. Had it not been for the PR plunder that preceded it, the trailer would have likely been more positively received. But, can it be recreated in a different game?...

Bloober, the developer behind Observer and Layers of Fear, has created a new trailer for The Medium in collaboration with award-winning VFX and animation studio, Platige Image. The cinematic trailer is built around the game’s core conceit; two co-existing realities that you will need to explore to uncover the truth behind the mysterious Niwa Hotel. It’s all a bit psychological horror, and the trailer goes big on the mental plight poor protagonist Marianna suffers in the game....

A little earlier this year, The Legend of Zelda turned 35 years old. Link originally set foot in the dangerous wilds of Hyrule on February 21st 1986 - and since then he and Zelda have been battling evil across multiple consoles, timelines, and even genres - and they show no sign of stopping. VG247 has joined forces with Nintendo UK to celebrate this fact - as well as today’s launch of the HD remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which is sort of serving as this anniversary’s new release as we not-so-quietly wait for Breath of the Wild 2....

The main difference you’re going to enjoy if you’re a returning fan of Tactics Ogre is the way Square Enix has removed barriers to play. In Reborn, there are fewer gates that bar you from playing in certain ways – yes, mages, wizards, rune fencers and similar classes can only use magic, but skills and equipment are more global. This means that gear you loot on the battlefield (and pick up in shops) can be given to your units more readily, and your fights slightly more balanced from the off....

November’s Xbox Games with Gold have been announced, and the games are Aragami: Shadow Edition, Swimsanity, Full Spectrum Warrior, and Lego Indiana Jones. Aragami: Shadow Edition will be available for the entire month on Xbox One. Swimsanity will go live on November 16 and will be available until December 15. Full Spectrum Warrior can be downloaded on Xbox 360 and Xbox One from November 1 to November 15, when it will be replaced by Lego Indiana Jones on November 16....

It’s fair to say that people gaming primarily on Xbox haven’t got a whole lot to look forward to at the moment. Redfall, an open-world co-op FPS from Arkane Austin, was revealed in June last year and given a broad “summer 2022” release window. While a new game from the team behind Prey and Dishonored is definitely something to be excited about, we haven’t seen gameplay yet and given that release date slips are the norm these days, a release in Q4 seems more likely....

Well, to reflect that, it looks like Ubisoft will be letting us get equally as high on Britain’s magic mushrooms in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla....

A jump to $69.99 would mark the first time Nintendo has priced a game in this bracket, but it’s also part of a wider trend. PlayStation, Xbox, and a raft of third parties have all begun to sell games at this more expensive price. In those cases, the price bump has generally been introduced as part of the shift to the new console hardware generation - but for Zelda, it’ll be a late-gen price hike....

The call was originally intended to focus on the brand new, real-time demo of Unreal Engine 5 running on a PS5. According to Epic Games’ Kim Libreri, said demo is actual game code that is currently playable on PS5 dev systems. However, the most interesting part of the call comes later. After already having discussed the new demo, which shows off the new Nanite and Lumen systems that are native to Unreal Engine 5, Tim Sweeney interjects to comment on the potential Unreal Engine 5 has in conjunction with next-gen hardware....

Now, I’d argue that this is how the game is supposed to be played – this way, you’ll get to see the various systems, engage with the loot more, and dive deeper into the classes. It’s all very compelling at that point (better than the brainless trudge Story mode affords you, at any rate). But the game is not kind. It’s not even sadistic in a fun way like FromSoft’s stuff is – it’s just sick....
