This weekend in Call of Duty, across both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, all three double XP events will be active across all platforms. Beginning Friday, March 26, double XP, double weapon XP as well as double battle pass XP will all be live in Warzone and Black Ops Cold War. The event will go on until Monday, March 29 as usual. And, because early access to double XP weekends is a thing this year, players on PlayStation can begin one day early, on Thursday, March 25....

As per a new post over on the Ubisoft forums, a Watch Dogs Legion hotfix has been pushed out that focuses on “[addressing] the performance issues we’re seeing on PlayStation4, Xbox One, and PC.” The patch is live now on console, and should be available for you to download if you’re reading this. PC players will have to wait a little longer, with the patch coming tomorrow for Windows users....

Today’s big stream is Koch Primetime, an event dedicated to showing games published by Koch Media, as well as the recently announced Prime Matter label. The show kicks off today 12pm PT, 3pm ET, 8pm UK. I was able to play a preview build of the game last week which let me grapple with the standard one-on-one match, the new Wargames mode, as well as the brand new showcase feature which takes you through John Cena’s career. August’s Xbox Games with Gold have been announced, and the games are Portal Knights, Override: Mech City Brawl, MX Unleashed, and Red Faction 2. Portal Knights and Override: Mech City Brawl will be made available for Xbox One. The former from August 1-31, and the latter will be available from August 16 to September 15. Xbox 360 users, as well as Xbox One owners, can download and play MX Unleashed August 1-5, and Red Faction 2 August 16-31....

The past few weeks brought some rumblings about a seemingly imminent change to Xbox Live. This all started with Microsoft confirming in July that it’s no longer offering 12-month subscriptions as an option for Xbox Live Gold, with the three and one-month remaining. Some assumed Microsoft is reshuffling all of the Xbox services under the Game Pass banner, which indicates a major change in how Xbox Live works today. Getting rid of Gold and offering free access to online multiplayer, for instance, was among the rumoured moves....

Microsoft has yet to officially announce its reportedly cheaper, less powerful next-gen console codename Lockhart. The Xbox Series X’s little brother has been rumoured for a while now, and is said to be a disc-less 4TF machine. Every few months, Microsoft updates its Gamecore Development Kit, which covers all of its currently supported Xbox platforms. The most recent update, spotted by security researcher TitleOS, openly references Lockhart as one of two performance profiles available under the Series X family of devices....

Last week, tech reporter and Microsoft insider Paul Thurrott said that Microsoft is planning to host a gaming livestream on March 23. Thurrott’s report follows a couple of weeks or rumblings that Xbox is looking to host an event sometime around March. The first community that gets anxious whenever it’s time for a new Xbox event is, of course, famished Elden Ring fans. Seeing as the game was revealed at an Xbox event ages ago, it’s only fair that the next trailer or piece of news would arrive on a Microsoft stage....

Xbox has had a good first week for Series X and Series S sales in the UK, the console’s second-biggest market. The two consoles shifted 155,000 units combined on launch day. That’s according to a report by VGC, who spoke with unnamed publishers. This means Xbox Series X/S managed to beat Xbox One’s 2013 150,000 launch haul, though only slightly - itself a record for Xbox in the UK at the time....

According to Gfk, Switch followed Xbox Series X/S in second place, with PS5 coming in third - narrowly - due to stock shortages. During the month, over 150,000 consoles were sold in total, and console revenue was up 251% year-over-year, mainly due to the newer high priced consoles. Game sales were up 7% year-over-year, with 941,672 units sold in the UK bringing in over £30 million. The top-selling game was Animal Crossing: New Horizons followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and GTA 5....

During today’s Stadia Connect, Google announced new titles coming to the service, and free games for Pro users. Stadia Pro games for May are Zombie Army 4: Dead War, Steamworld Heist, and The Turing Test. You will be able to grab all three on May 1. Since Stadia Pro is free to everyone for the next two months, give them a try. Rock of Ages 3: Make and Break is also coming to Stadia on June 2....

“Microsoft will offer Bethesda’s Starfield as a replacement for Halo Infinite, which was developed in-house but postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19,” wrote an associate project manager for Thematic Research at GlobalData in an email currently stinking up my inbox. “The game should boost the appeal for the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles during the holiday season.” Seemingly unable to type “Starfield release date” into Google, GlobalData is assuming Starfield, a game that was only teased in 2018 after years of rumour, and according to Bethesda’s Todd Howard is only in pre-production, is actually going to be out in a few months....

Fallout 76’s biggest update, Wastelanders, is set to address a particularly massive piece of feedback players have shared since the launch of the online game: the lack of NPCs. Wastelanders not only brings back NPCs, it adds stories where player choices can shape the world, just like classic Fallout games. Lead designer Ferret Baudoin said the team didn’t anticipate how the lack of NPCs would generate that much negativity around Fallout 76 at launch....

Across the Realms is said sidequest, one you might discover on your playthrough of the game, where you’re tasked with finding four ingredients across the four realms. But as shared by fellow developer Sam Handrick, the sidequest was made in memory of Snipes, his partner and co-worker. “There’s something in God of War Ragnarok which is the most special to me. I got to pitch it and the team made it into everything I could have hoped,” wrote Handrick on Twitter....

While the game releasing on these consoles is good news itself, there’s even better news: the game allows for crossplay between systems so everyone can play together. And 4-15 player lobbies are supported with online multiplayer.
