Sony sent out units to various critics and influencers, and PS5 reviews have started to land. Without further ado, let’s have a look at what some of the critics think about Sony’s next-gen hardware. This marks the first European company to be acquired by Netease, as the company stretches its financial fingers across the world to pluck up studios left and right. With this particular acquisition, the folks at Netease state the studio will “continue to operate independently” as it develops titles across all platforms. The studio will also apparently continue to support and publish third-party developed titles which is great news if you liked the look of Under the Waves — a game first revealed at Gamescom earlier this month which is published by Quantic Dream and developed by another French team at Parallel Studios....

Rainbow Six Siege will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series this year. You can expect the game to cost the same as the current price, and all current players will receive the next-gen version of the game for no additional cost. You will also be able to keep your in-game content and progression. You will also be able to play across both consoles in the same family of systems....

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart enjoyed some seriously impressive review scores yesterday, and our own Tom Orry lauded the game, saying that “the PS5 has arrived” in our own Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart review. More impressive than Insomniac’s latest critically-acclaimed game, though, is the confirmation that the developers managed to produce it in a studio that didn’t need to crunch in order to hit the release date. “[Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart] is at 89 average score [on Metacritic], and I can’t speak for anyone on the team but myself, but I didn’t crunch once,” tweeted game designer Grant Parker....

The figure was announced in the firm’s recent financial report for the third quarter ending December 31, 2022. Take-Two said that Red Dead Redemption 2 exceeded expectations and that during the quarter, sales of the title were driven by “successful holiday promotions and events. The final major update to Red Dead Online, Blood Money, was released in July 2021. Rockstar announced in July 2022 it would no longer release large updates for the game, as it was moving all of its resources over to the development of Grand Theft Auto 6....

Remedy has announced that its next big game has properly started development. We learned last year that the studio’s next big title would be funded by Epic Games, and there are myriad rumours and reports that point to the game being a full-on Alan Wake sequel. Remedy and Epic have yet to confirm that, though. As well as the news about this new game moving into full production, the report notes that Remedy Entertainment’s headcount has grown to nearly 300 people, which makes sense – the studio has a lot on its plate, after all....

Now, after 22 years at the helm, Dan Houser is departing the company. As one of the driving creative forces, it will be interesting to see what form Rockstar’s next games appear in. Not only was Dan Houser a co-founder, but he was also lead writer on its biggest game series: Red Dead Redemption and GTA. Take-Two revealed the news of Houser’s departure in a notice sent to US financial regulators....

Modern Warfare and Warzone players can expect season three to start next week on April 8. Details on what to expect haven’t been provided as of press time, but we expect that to change early next week before the season officially kicks off. Speaking during today the Xbox extended showcase, creative director Tameem Antoniades discussed how the Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 team is currently working on the main foundations before going into full production. So, it sounds like we will be waiting a while and it hasn’t entered into full production. The team is also still working on motion capture, particularly on combat. According to Antoniades, combat will be “real and brutal.” The team wants it to be authentic, so both the animators and the actor playing Senua have gone through combat training for the last two years....

Anyway, excitement from fans was immediate, as is to be expected. Silent Hill fans are incredibly passionate about the franchise, although many of us are primarily passionate about seeing those original games on modern consoles. Right now, it’s a battle to play Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 on modern devices, and honestly, they might be old and haggard at this point, but they still have something very special about them....

And it’s coming to Steam soon. Announced in a blog post, Bethesda has revealed that both The Elder Scrolls Arena and Daggerfall are coming to Steam for the first time ever very soon. “With the sunsetting of the Bethesda.net Launcher, we will be making several of our titles available on Steam that were previously unavailable,” says the publisher. If you’ve already been playing the original pair of Elder Scrolls titles via the doomed laucher, fret not – you will be able to move your save data from those versions of the game to the Steam ones....

Full Circle, the newly-established development team behind Skate 4, has confirmed that it won’t be part of EA Play Live this Thursday. This year might not be moving quite as fast as everyone’s favourite hedgehog, but it is steadily getting closer to the holiday season (sorry for reminding everyone it’s May now). But the holidays themselves apparently aren’t struggling to keep up with the hog. As spotted by Nintendo Life, Sega of America’s social media manager Katie Chrzanowski provided a very brief update into the state of Sonic Frontiers, saying that news will be coming “soon,” and that it’s still coming out this holiday....

Sonic Mania and Horizon Chase Turbo are both currently free over on the Epic Games Store. In Sonic Mania, our favorite hedgehog along with his buddies Tails and Knuckles go up against bosses and roll through 2D landscapes in a rather fun title full of classic gameplay. Horizon Chase Turbo looks like a nice tribute to classic racing games. In fact, it was inspired by titles such as Out Run, Top Gear (SNES), and Rush, among others....

From clinging on to bi-planes to commandeering bank trucks, this action-packed trailer kept the zany thrills coming at a pleasingly-punchy pace. Yet for fans, it wasn’t the speed of our titular hero that had them losin it on Twitter: it was the addition of Tails and Knuckles. Adding more CG friends to Sonic’s largely human cast, Tails seems faithfully chirpy and Idris Elba’s gravelly tones seem to perfectly suit everyone’s favourite emo Echidna....

In case you are unfamilair with the stroyline for the upcoming film, here’s the synopsis: The film is set to arrive in theaters on April 8 next year. Ben Schwartz returns as the voice of Sonic, Idris Elba provides the voice of Knuckles, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey will voice Tails....

Speaking in a company memo (thanks, Deadline), Rothman said the success “marks a great victory” for the company, as the film was the “first major production entirely shut down by the advent of Covid, yet we persevered to complete a picture the audience loves.” According to Fandango’s Erik Davis, when it comes to video game adaptations, Uncharted had the fourth biggest opening weekend earning $44 million in the US behind Sonic the Hedgehog, Detective Pikachu, and 2001’s Tomb Raider, respectively....

Sony has announced it’s a hosting month-long celebration event at its Sony Square NYC store called Experience PlayStation. It kicks off today and will remain until February 16. Although the event’s page explicitly states it’s focused on PS4 and PS VR titles, the timing has fans wondering if it’ll be capped off with a PS5 reveal. PS4, as you may recall, was first unveiled at a February 20, 2013 event in New York Sony dubbed PlayStation Meeting....

Developed by Russian studio Mundfish, Atomic Heart sees you inhabit the gruff persona of KGB special agent P-3. The new trailer showcases a weird but wonderful insight into the wild world of Atomic Heart, where metal worms fly across the sky and you have a sort of strange Thor-esque hammer that boomerangs back to you after you chuck it at someone. There’s also a weird tree monster that looks like it has several hearts neatly tucked within its rooted vertebrae....
