It’s a good generation for control pads in general; the Switch Pro Controller is great, the Xbox Series X & S have a strong tweak of a trusty classic, and then Sony has this - an actual, properly, truly revolutionary controller....

PUBG continues to spice up its classic battle royale formula. The latest of these tweaks arrives as part of update 13.1, which is live now on the game’s test server on PC. 13.1 goes live August 4 for everyone else on PC, and August 12 on consoles. The biggest change is what developer Krafton is calling emergency landing. The big cargo plane that brings all players to the map at the start of the match could now suffer an engine failure that causes it to catch on fire, sending it quickly hurtling towards the ground....

The fighter is part of the Challenger Pack 9 DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which also includes a new stage and a selection of music tracks from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. In a video released this morning hosted by Masahiro Sakurai, the Super Smash Bros. series director walked through the newly added fighter’s move set, including a detailed look at the new Cloud Sea of Alrest stage. In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Pyra is a legendary Blade and a living weapon for the main character Rex....

News of Quake coming to Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PlayStation leaked out ahead of the formal announcement set for QuakeCon at Home thanks to the PlayStation Store. This version of the game has been updated and visually enhanced with up to 4Kand wide resolution support. You can also expect enhanced models, dynamic and colored lighting, anti-aliasing, and depth of field. Plus, the game will contain the original soundtrack including the theme song by Trent Reznor....

The online event QuakeCon at Home is back and it will kick off August 19 and end on August 21. During that time, you can expect livestreams featuring updates on existing and upcoming games, tournaments, charity fundraising, puppies (daw!), giveaways, and more. Today during Microsoft and Bethesda’s E3 2021 presentation, it was announced that Redfall will launch summer 2022, and will come to Xbox and PC only. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass, day one. But what is it? “The quaint island town of Redfall, Massachusetts, is under siege by a legion of vampires who have blocked out the sun and cut the island off from the outside world,” explains a blurb for the trailer....

That’s according to the sci-fi shooter series’ official Twitter account, which announced that the game will be launching on PC for the first time as part of The Master Chief Collection on November 17. The description for a trailer for the game on YouTube describes this release as optimised for PC. Apparently Halo 4’s campaign as been “fully remastered,” too. Halo: The Master Chief Collection was released for Xbox One in November 2014 and featured the first four entries in the franchise....

Remedy has revealed results for Q1 of FY2021. Alongside the earnings news, Remedy also shared a few early details about what it’s working on now that’s it’s done with Control. First, the first AAA game published and funded by Epic Games is about to enter into full production. That project, which has yet to be officially revealed, is said to be Alan Wake 2. Remedy is working on another, smaller-scale game which entered full production sometime ago....

Capcom’s latest entry in the long-running and world-renowned survival horror franchise is doing incredibly well for the company, living up to recent releases like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Monster Hunter World. Today, Capcom confirmed via press release that the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC game has shipped a massive 4 million units. The figure includes shipments to retailers, as well as direct digital sales....

Respawn’s shooter team is seemingly placing all of its focus on the free-to-play battle royale shooter Apex Legends, so don’t expect a new Titanfall anytime soon. Studio head Vince Zampella confirmed that there are currently no Titanfall games in development at Respawn, even if Zampella would personally like the series to return in some way. “There’s nothing currently in development,” Zampella told IGN. “But it’s always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]....

The Riders Republic beta is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. You have until this Saturday, August 28 to get involved. In even better news, the beta supports cross-play between the different platforms. In the beta, you’ll be able to check out three of the game’s careers: Bike Races, Snow Tricks, and Air Sports (both Rocketwing, and Wingsuit). A big focus of this beta is multiplayer, and you can expect a wealth of modes there....

Cyan previously remade Myst — Riven’s predecessor — back in 2021 in what was a widely-praised reimagining of the original. The response was positive enough, and the financial returns were worthwhile enough, to warrant the same loving restoration for the rest of the series. It’s at this point in a news piece where I insert a touch of personal impression, however I wasn’t even alive back in 1997! I do wholeheartedly support the idea of remakes of genre classics like Riven though, and I am glad to hear that there’s still a large enough user base of nostalgic fans or curious newcomers to justify such an undertaking....

Rockstar North, the developer’s Edinburgh studio responsible for GTA, Red Dead Redemption and more, is hosting an introductory workshop into game development. The free event takes place on February 22, though registration has since closed. It’s organised by Girls’ Game Lab, who will oversee activities like programming, asset creation, level design and more. The workshop is available for girls aged 8-12, which hopefully means many of them will join the games industry later....

It’s worth taking this all with a grain of salt, especially considering that there’s been no official word on the existence of a PS5 controller aimed towards competitive play, alongside the reality that no evidence of the controller’s existence has been provided aside from the anonymous claims. Nonetheless this controller, if real, will include several features that may sound familiar if you’ve picked up an Xbox Pro controller at any point - including removable analogue sticks, trigger stops, and rear paddle buttons for additional input options....

For the first time in its 50-year history, San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), has been canceled. Organizers behind the annual event have announced there would be no Comic-Con convention in 2020. SDCC will instead return July 22-25, 2021. Those behind the event were hoping COVID-19 concerns might lessen by summer, but due to recent health advisories and statements by the Governor of California, it was made clear to organizers it would “not be safe to move forward with plans for this year....

When Sea of Thieves first released, I liked it well enough - but I also thought it was probably going to end up struggling. It had strong ideas, and a whole lot of developer Rare’s trademark heart, but it also just didn’t seem like… enough. It felt like it was destined to be another one of those service-like games that’d be good, but ultimately sink, unable to hold player interest....

Shakedown: Hawaii has been announced for Wii and Wii U, and both versions will feature previously released content and updates. This includes the Mogul Update, the Full Tank Update, and post-launch tweaks, improvements, and optimizations. Both versions will also support 4:3 on CRT televisions. The Wii version supports both 50hz and 60hz, and both NTSC and PAL output. It supports the Wii Remote with shake, Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro, and GameCube Controller....
