An adaptation of the hugely popular MMO action RPG Dungeon Fighter Online, Arc System Works is back at it again bringing a popular IP to a shiny 2D stage. The difference this time around is that it’s working in collaboration with Eighting - the developer behind Marvel vs Capcom 3 - which will perk the ears of those who like intense, madcap fighters. DNF Duel is launching in an ideal release window, between the big hitters of 2021 and the oncoming giants expected next year like Street Fighter 6 and Project L....

According to a post from the studio’s general manager Gary McKay, the game is currently “right in the middle of production” with the team now focused on building out its vision for Dragon Age 4. McKay states the blueprint for the game was completed last year, and now the team is focused on creating environments, characters, gameplay, impactful writing, emotional cinematics, and much more. Also noted in the development update was the departure of the game’s executive producer Christian Dailey, who had been with the studio since 2018....

From that well-supported, deeply refined base comes Dying Light 2 – a new game set in a new world with a new protagonist (that’ll apparently take a good 500+ hours to fully complete). It’s something of a clean slate for developer Techland, and in many ways, the studio has gone back to the drawing board in order to try and make the series even more appealing to games of all tastes....

There are two problems facing Aiden on his quest to find his sister: Should he side with the Survivors or Peacekeepers to further his own agenda? Or should he do what’s best for the city as a whole? The disorganised and disparate Survivors were getting along fine despite their internal conflicts, while the Peacekeepers offered greater security, but at the cost of encroaching authoritarianism. As you progress the story in Dying Light 2, without going into spoiler territory, it’s important to remember that choosing both the Survivors or Peacekeepers are valid routes, and that the major story beats are not that different regardless of what you pick....

Dying Light 2 is much the same. Techland improved on the original Dying Light in almost every way, with a more thoughtful scenario that distinguishes it as more than just a parkour twist on the zombie genre. It also fries some of its goats along the way, with unclear vision and a reluctance to let its unique traits shine. Kyle Crane saved the city of Harran in Dying Light, and you quickly learn that amounts to nothing....

Techland has detailed many new features you’ll find in Dying Light 2. For one thing, choices and consequences will play a large part in how things play out. Players will make decisions based on layers, through story missions which can change how the game ends, and choices made during quests can influence the missions....

Developed by Slightly Mad Studios since 2015, EA announced today it will “stop further development and investment” in the series, as revealed by GI.biz. The announcement was made internally, and it is said that employees working on Project CARS will be moved into different roles at EA where possible. Acquired by Codemasters in 2019 (itself acquired by EA in 2021), Slightly Mad Studios has released three mainline games in the series, with the last, Project CARS Go, being released for mobile in 2021....

Following the initial tweet, Pokemon Go’s official account retweeted the announcement with the eyes emoji – but no further details. Are we going to see avatar items that make you look like the red-headed musicaian? Or we going to get some of his insipid brand of inoffensive pop as a soundtrack to our catching and hatching? Are we going to get another Pikachu wearing a hat, but with a shock of ginger hair?...

Malenia is notorious for being Elden Ring’s most challenging boss, so Let Me Solo Her’s co-op summon sign was a welcome sight for anyone looking to beat her. The legend has soloed her over 1,000 times. Klein Tsuboi, the person behind the persona, revealed on Twitter that they were sent a care package by Bandai Namco, Elden Ring’s publisher. The swag box includes an actual sword from the game, a wearable cloak, a world map, a piece of art, and a personalised note - all in a very regal box....

Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s next big project, has been nothing more than a dream only the studio’s most loyal fans have kept alive. Since the game’s reveal in 2019, not a single official word about it has been said. Unfortunately for everyone, it looks like this will continue to be the case for the foreseeable future. Kadokawa Corp., the parent company of developer FromSoftware, has published its earnings forecast for the full fiscal year, ending March 31, 2022....

Everspace 2 was scheduled to go into Early Access on Steam in September, but will now arrive on the service in December. The testers have also been delayed. The closed alpha will now instead go live in May and the closed beta will go live in August. According to Rockfish, the decision was made after the cancelation of GDC 2020 in March due to COVID19 as well as the “postponement of important business meetings with platform operators,” and potential co-publishing partners....

Believe it or not, the ability to eject a disc from the Xbox One controller has been one of the most requested features for the console since it launched around seven years ago. Finally, it’s here. Get pumped (in the American way, not the Scottish way - unless you fancy celebrating like that, you do you). Xbox One now allows you to eject a disc - an actual physical disc, remember those?...

The reason this is an issue, says Layden, is that it encourages stagnation since companies are “incentivized towards sequels” to lower risk. “What happens there is that you end up with 3-4 silos of games or game types that continue to exist, and variety is squeezed out,” worries Layden. As interviewer Jason Schrier notes, the current triple-A games landscape is already playing out in exactly this way, with annualized sequels in franchises like Call of Duty and Madden papering the landscape....

Out on March 1, the story features the boy embarking on a voyage to find a new home, where he will sail stormy waters, dive unknown depths, and explore forgotten ruins in a flooded world. If you aren’t an Xbox Game Pass user, it is also coming to platforms other than those developed by Microsoft. You will also be able to pick it up for PlayStation, Switch, and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store....

This statistic was revealed by Valve following a recent hardware survey (via Road to VR) - the first survey of this kind since the March release of its flagship VR title Half-Life: Alyx. This statistic represents the number of headsets connected to Steam over a particular month - which means, while it’s the closest we have to data on active VR users, it does not account for headsets which were connected but not actively used....

In an interview with PlayStation Blog, Square Enix veteran and Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida reiterated that the game is pretty much done – there’s just some tweaks, fixes and fine-tuning that needs to happen before it can be unleashed upon the world at large. “Right now, the game is fully playable from start to finish, but we have a lot of voiceover in several languages that still need to be recorded,” he told the blog....

While the next full part of the story might be a way off, fans of FF7 at least have a little bit of all-new content this year in the form of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and its new Intermission chapter - an all-new chunk of story which stars beloved optional original FF7 party member Yuffie Kisaragi. Fire Emblem Engage has a handful of rad dark-skinned people, and the game doesn’t make a big deal out of it. They’re just there, and it’s the most natural thing in the world. This is rare, and I love it. You do get black characters in Japanese RPGs, of course - Final Fantasy 7’s Barret is the classic poster-child - but it’s also fair to say they’re not exactly common....
