The founder of PC giant Valve Gabe Newell has said that he has “a lot of sympathy” for Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt. Speaking to New Zealand publication TVNZ.com, the exec said that he felt that some aspects of the recently-launched sci-fi RPG are “just brilliant.” He went on to say that people shouldn’t throw stones at CD Projekt because what the studio has achieved is “pretty amazing.” “I have a lot of sympathy with a situation that every game developer finds themselves in,” he said....

Mortal Shell is the debut game from indie studio Cold Symmetry, a team made up of AAA industry veterans. Mortal Shell is Souls-like action RPG that Cold Symmetry hopes would do the genre justice. There are a few intentional similarities between Mortal Shell’s world and those of Souls. It’s a grim, hopeless setting where you’re a nameless pawn who’s spurred to do someone else’s bidding without really understanding the full context of your actions....
Gamescom 2020 Opening Night Live was full of new trailers for upcoming indie games, but few were as impressive as Tuxedo Labs’ Teardown. Teardown is a voxel-based first-person heist game, but its biggest selling points is its completely destructible sandbox environment. The voxels the make up buildings, vehicles and most objects are all physically simulated, and they can all be torn to pieces. Tuxedo Labs brought a fairly lengthy gameplay trailer to Opening Night Live, showing the ingenuity the game’s interactive sandbox allows for....

Riot Games has followed up last week’s Phoenix reveal for its upcoming shooter, Valorant, with another today focusing on Viper. Viper is all about area denial through gas and acid. She’s capable of creating a wall of poisonous gas, and acid pools. She’s also shown to have an ability that further covers an area with gas. Some of the details are unclear because of how short the video is. For instance, we don’t always know if these tools deal damage over time or just block sight lines....

They’re very difficult to track down, but once you’ve scouted enough locations, they offer a whole new way to experience the Zeta Halo world. There are 12 Halo Infinite Skulls in total - 7 are found in the open world, 5 inside of missions - but be prepared to look hard. Doctor Who and Victoria actress Jenna Coleman has suggested that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 could be in development in a video call with a fan that has started doing the rounds online (cheers, VGC). “I think they’re going to do another,” she said in the chat. “Common knowledge? Don’t know… Yeah I think they’re going to do another… Not sure if I’m allowed to say that.” Coleman, who plays Princess Melia Antiqua in the series, has been working with Nintendo since her “pre-Dr Who days”, and the question came up in the chat when she was asked how she got the role in the first place....
Valve has rolled out a new Steam update that brings further support for the DualSense controller functions. The new patch, available in beta at this time, follows last week’s update, which brought preliminary support for the controller. Once you install the beta client (or after it goes live for everyone), Steam will be able to recognise the DualSense’s LED lights, trackpad, rumble and even its gyro functions, which is great news for players way into flick stick....
