Look into the sky at night from the frozen wastes and you will see a spectacular light show dancing in the dark. As well as that visual enhancement, the update comes with a bunch of new things to discover, including - as you would expect from an update titled Lost Ship - some, well, lost ships. “We’ve received a number of reports regarding a crashed ship broken up on the ocean floor, one part discovered near Lilypad Islands and another near Thermal Vents,” reads the official post....

Each ending will depend upon choices you make in the game with the non-playable characters. These endings could result in life or death, as the story will change depending on said choices - all of which are included in a 1,000-page script. Speaking with IGN, the game’s director, Will Byles, discussed the amount of work that goes into such a “mathematical nightmare”. And the large amount of work wasn’t only thrust upon the developers themselves, but the game’s actors as well....

SXSW 2020 organizers have announced the March event has been canceled by the city of Austin. This will be the first time in 34 years the Texas event will not take place. According to the official announcement, options to reschedule the event are being discussed, and organizers are working to provide a “virtual SXSW online experience as soon as possible” for participants, starting with SXSW EDU. This year’s event was to feature a keynote from former Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime....

Released in Japan in February 2020 as Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, the upcoming game launches in the West this week. If you’re eager to get more of a feeling as to what the collaboration between P Studio and Omega Force is going to be like, then all you need to do is look at the new story trailer below. “Liberate hearts with the Phantom Thieves!” reads a blurb for the trailer....

By now, anyone who wants to check the leaked Team Fortress 2 source code can. Though Valve did confirm that it’s from 2017, and doesn’t pose a security risk, this won’t stop people from poking and prodding. Twitter user @TailorTF dug up some lines from the leaked code. The lines of code themselves aren’t the issue, rather the comments accompanying them. Developers leave comments on their colleagues’ work all the time, of course, but these are inflammatory....

That is, until, yesterday. Team Fortress 2 shared a blog post with fans and players, detailing that the game will receive a “full on update-sized update,” and will require the help of the community. I don’t know about you, but when I first saw the post do the rounds on Twitter last night, I was tired and dismissed it as being an elaborate prank. Alas, this is not a drill, and this update could finally breathe back some life into Team Fortress 2....

Our main focus with this list is to talk about games that you can jump into and play right now. More specifically, FPS games with bustling communities, or simply riveting gameplay that stands up to this day. That way, you’re not booting up an age-old shooter that no longer supports online play, or a campaign that is unplayable without mods, and so forth. Knowing Criterion Games’ PS2 classic Black was great when it came out back in 2006 is all well and good, but pressing R3 to ADS these days just feels wrong....

At the Summer Game Fest Kickoff live event, developer Stray Bombay revealed The Anacrusis - a co-op shooter with a retro-future aesthetic. Stray Bombay is, of course, the studio established by Valve veteran writer Chet Faliszek, and Riot Games designer Kimberly Voll in 2019. Faliszek was one of Valve’s most recognisable faces, having contributed to many of the studio’s classic games. The Anacrusis is four-player co-op FPS, coming to PC this fall, that stars four unlikely heroes forced to battle for survival against an alien invasion....

Regular VG247 readers will of course recognize the company Analogue thanks to its status as a regular staple of my detours into the world of retro gaming. In many ways, Analogue Pocket feels like the machine the company has been building to over its last several products. This isn’t to diminish the achievements of the high-end versions of the Super Nintendo, Mega Drive, and NES that the company has released before, as these are all still incredible products....

That’s according to studio founder and CEO Glen Schofield, who announced the change in a tweet. Striking Distance was established by PUBG publisher PUBG Corp. in 2019 to work on games set in the PUBG universe. According to Schofield, as development progressed, the game “grew into its own world.” Originally part of the PUBG timeline, the upcoming horror game was set 300 years into the future. PUBG players shouldn’t be too disappointed though, as there will still be a “few surprises for fans,” but the game now features its own story and universe....

This all happened before, remember? Horizon: Zero Dawn released on February 28, 2017. It was a neat open-world game with beautiful graphics, a personable protagonist, and a really cool vibe, and sense of style. But then, four days later, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released. The board was wiped clean by Nintendo’s foray into open world action-adventure design. It didn’t matter how cool Horizon (metascore 89) was; the conversation was now all about Zelda (metascore 96)....

The gameplay demo, which you can check out below, is powered by id’s proprietary idTech engine and the footage captured in the video is running on a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti at 4K with ray tracing enabled. This is the first time we’ve seen the game show off raytracing – and it’s gorgeous. The video description says the trailer lets you “experience the game’s stunning visual fidelity and frantic action like never before” and it’s not messing around....

Console review copies of Cyberpunk 2077 were only made available to the press this week shortly after reviews of the PC version had gone live, so unsurprisingly final reviews are currently few and far between. In most cases, reviewers of the PS4 and Xbox One versions are finding out how CD Projekt Red’s ambitious sci-fi RPG runs at the same time as the public who unlocked their game on December 10....

“It’s been 19 years since this brawler threw fists back in KOF 2002,” says the blurb for Nanakase’s debut gameplay trailer. “Everyone, please give a warm welcome to the leader of the Four Heavenly Kings, YASHIRO NANAKASE!” Long-term fans of the series will know that Nanakse is the team leader of the Orochi Team, and goes by the nickname “Shrine of the Seven Shackles”. His trailer shows that he will play similarly to past iterations of the game, with some command grabs thrown into the mix for good measure....

Taking place in the Chase Center, California, the grand finals saw super team T1 face off against DRX, both Korean favourites that managed to earn their spot over yet another brilliant Korea team in Gen.G, and Chinese powerhouse Royal Never Give Up. Some interesting facts can be seen by looking at esports charts, an esports data analytics website, that tracked the event. According to the website, there was a viewership leap of close to 3 million from the semi-finals matches and the finals, and close to 1 million average viewers across the entire finals event....

The Outer Worlds will be available through Steam on October 23, it has been announced. The game was an Epic Games Store exclusive for one year on PC. Released in late-October 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, the game is a critical success, and financially exceeded expectations for its publisher, Take-Two’s Private Division label. It was released on Switch back in June. In September, story DLC was released for the game....

In the announcement, Turner teased that their first game would be revealed very soon, and he wasn’t lying. As the Devolver Digital Showcase unfolded, we got our first peek at The Plucky Squire, which will be coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch in 2023. Admittedly, the childlike look of The Plucky Squire lost my interest at first, which is amusing considering my favourite game series is about a pink puff ball called Kirby....

The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners (PlayStation VR) Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning (PS4) First Class Trouble (PS4 / PS5) Knockout City (PS4 / PS5) First Class Trouble has been available on Steam in Early Access since April 8 2021, and an announcement trailer for the PS4 and PS5 versions was released only a month ago. The game has yet to have a full release date, but if these leaks are true it would mean that the complete game must be available sometime between now and November 2....

Starting today, you can download PS4 titles Abzu, Enter the Gungeon, Rez Infinite, Subnautica, and The Witness for free. If you own a PlayStation VR headset, you have Astro Bot Rescue Mission and the adorable Moss available for download. Thumper and Paper Beast are also available, making it nine titles in all today. The selection of PS4 and PSVR games are a free download until April 22 as part of Sony’s Play at Home initiative....
