The September update is PS5’s most feature-rich yet. The highlight addition is the arrival of M.2 SSD support for storage expansion, allowing console owners to expand the available space by inserting a supported Gen 4 NVME SSD into the dedicated slot. Unlike traditional external USB storage solutions, attaching an SSD allows players to install PS5 games on the new storage, something not possible on USB external drives. The update also includes 3D audio support for TV speakers, a feature previously exclusive to headphones....

Sony filed for a number of patents recently with the USPO. The most intriguing of which (discovered by The Gamepost) gives us an early look at the design of the main PS5 UI, and the new features Sony could be implementing. Going by the illustrations shared in the filing, the PS5 UI doesn’t look that much different from what’s currently available on PS4. The drawer, XMB layout is the same, but the tiles themselves have been redesigned to display more information....

PUBG corp. is celebrating PUBG’s third anniversary with some free content. The developer is giving away the 3rd Anniversary Box, free to all players who log in on PC and consoles. The box contains a parachute skin, an M416 skin, and a hoodie. The freebies are available March 23 to April 23 on PC, and March 25 to April 25 on consoles. The package is found in Utility > Crate under the customisation tab....

The news comes from GamesIndustry.biz. Widely lauded as the original battle royale prior to the global explosion in that specific genre, PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds has, according to PUBG Corp, shipped over 70 million units since its official launch in December 2017. It had been in Early Access for nine months prior to that, originally being available for beta testers in March of the same year. According to the GamesIndustry report, this is the first time PUBG Corp has released sales figures since June 2018, at which point the game had sold approximately 50 million copies....

In the latest video for the upcoming title, Dr. Elena “Mira” Alvarez, director of REACT R&D, leads the team gathering critical information on the evolving Archaean threat. Because every enemy has its own capabilities and mutations, you will need to learn, adapt, and work together as a team of three in order to survive. The game features 18 out of the 60 operators from Rainbow Six Siege in this new PVE setting....

Rainbow Six Siege developer Ubisoft seems to address the subject of cross-play and cross-progression every few months, but it’s still nowhere to be seen in the live game. In a recent interview with PC Gamer about the impending launch of the game’s sixth year of content, starting with Crimson Heist, the developer was asked about the long-in-development cross-play features. “We’re actively working on cross-progression and cross-play,” said game director Jean-Baptiste Halle, before stressing that it’s likely going to be limited to consoles when it arrives....

Epic has rotated in two new games available to Epic Games Store users for free. On top of the 24-hour-only A Total War Saga: Troy freebie (which ends in a few hours), this week’s two, previously announced games have arrived. The biggest is Remnant: From the Ashes, Gunfire Games’ weird mishmash of shooters and Souls-likes. It’s mostly a shooter where you run through randomly-generated maps collecting weapons, armour and artefacts to augment your play style....

I was a child when I first picked up a copy of Resident Evil 6 from a market stall down an alley in Yorkshire. It definitely wasn’t legitimate, but a younger version of myself was fascinated by the cover art (little did I know what everyone else thought of it at the time) and all the Resident Evil gameplay I’d grown up watching, thanks to my parents. I was, by some margin, too young to play Resident Evil 6, but my dad let me get a copy anyway, and I instead was allowed to watch him play it....

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Village has sold another 500,000 units since we last got an update from the company, meaning the sales now total over 4.5 million. Given that the game has been out for just under two months, that’s a pretty impressive number. It means Resident Evil Village is up there with some of Capcom’s biggest games, including Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Monster Hunter World....

You may have noticed the particularly convoluted schedule Capcom organized for the second Resident Evil Village demo that allows you to play a portion of the game for up to 30 minutes. For those of you who already own a copy of Resident Evil Village, you’ll be able to jump into Castle Dimitrescu in PSVR2 for free on release, with the VR Mode essentially being free DLC. All you need to do is simply update your game, and voilà, you can play the entire campaign in virtual reality. Tsuyoshi Kanda, producer at Capcom, shared in a PlayStation blog post as to how the PSVR2 will be utilised for Resident Evil Village specifically....

The class-action lawsuit came after blockbuster reports of sexism and abuse in Riot’s workplace. The settlement was approved by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and will give $80 million of the $100 million to women employees and contractors at the company and the remaining $20 million set aside for legal fees and such. Riot must also set aside $6 million per year for three years to adjust pay as well as create new positions for contractors that are part of the class-action lawsuit....
