This is the second of five Tall Tales that make up the season’s story campaign A Pirate’s Life. After you’ve completed the campaign’s titular first quest, you’ll need to head off in search of Captain Jack Sparrow’s ship the Black Pearl… the only wrinkle is, it’s currently in the Sunken Kingdom which, as the name suggests, is at the bottom of the ocean. To get what you need from the Pearl you’re going to need to traverse Siren Spire — where you’ll need to complete puzzles (and occasionally fight enemies) to progress up through the levels of a tower....

The first aspect of the new season we see, as the clear star of the season six update, are sea forts. These are six unique small fortresses located in set locations on the ocean that players can sail to and take over. They’ll either be facing off against ghostly occupants guarding the forts treasures, or other players who have set up camp in these highly defendable locals. Intended as a short PvE encounter for those looking for a quick burst of action, forts offer treasure and a temporary home base for those able to take them over....

Now to tide you over, the developer has released its launch trailer showing off some of ways players can evolve their shark, adding new adaptations to help you hunt from the depths and chew on pesky, machine-gun toting humans. As reported last year, Maneater is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store on May 22. A version for Nintendo Switch will be made available at a later date but is expected this year....

Announced during the Microsoft + Bethesda E3 showcase yesterday, Slime Rancher 2 is coming to Xbox Series X/S. Slime Rancher 2 features an open-world experience across a rainbow-hued island that you can explore at your own pace. If it is anything like the original, it will be a fun game. In it, you wield a vacuum gun to breed and collect cute slime creatures. The visuals this time out are different from the original, as the setting is more soft and prismatic....

There is context for this, of course. Both games appeared on the massive Nvidia Geforce Now leak from 2021. Though Nvidia said at the time not to take anything on that list seriously, time has proven that the majority of those names were of actual games. The mega-leak is the gift that keeps on giving, evidently. Over on Reddit, user EmpressOfSony posted multiple screenshots from both Returnal, and Sackboy seemingly running on PC....

Doom and Hades may not have much in common, beyond being critical darlings, but their music is both memorable and so fitting of their styles that it’s hard to experience them without such a core component of their makeup. But what if you could Doom-ify the Hades soundtrack? After all, the two are made up of banging medleys of guitar solos and an upbeat spirit to their soundtrack. Musician and YouTuber Geoffrey Day decided to go through the effort of turning Hades’ soundtrack into music that would be fit for Doom and Doom Eternal....

Final Fantasy 7 is noticeably absent, but not without other games to make up for it. Square was especially generous with the Final Fantasy titles, which ranged from the most recent Final Fantasy 15 game to the original PC port of Final Fantasy 8. In fact, now might be a good time to catch up on old Final Fantasy classics. After all, Square Enix admitted to holding back on Final Fantasy 16 and working on a long list of remakes....

In the video, design director Emil Pagliarulo also provides fresh details on the game’s factions. Two of the largest are the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, and then there’s the Constellation, with whom you will begin your journey in Starfield as an explorer of the galaxy. Starfield is like many other Bethesda games in such that you will be able to create any character you want and freely explore the game world....

The most recent Steam patch included several references to Steam Cloud Play, a service Valve has yet to officially announce. It turns out, there’s a reason Steam Cloud code was added to the client. Valve published a new document that reveals the launch of the developer beta, and explains what it is and how they can get their games involved. This is essentially Valve’s way of allowing users to play their games remotely....

The free feature will allow users to seamlessly move between Steam Deck and PC instances of their games without worrying about exiting the game on Deck. Valves says it anticipates users will frequently suspend their Deck without exiting the game, which is common with other hand-helds. But with Dynamic Cloud Sync, if users then choose to play on another device such as PC or another Stea, Deck, their progress will be waiting for them....

The Steam Game Festival has been renamed to Steam Next Fest. In a post on the PC platform, Valve said that it had tweaked the branding of this event to make it clearer what the show is all about. The next, er, Steam Next Fest is set to place between June 16 and 22 and will feature “hundreds” of demos, with developers also taking part in livestreams to discuss their upcoming releases....

Steam has yet again broken its own record when it comes to the number of concurrent players online. On January 2, Steam peaked at 25,416,720 online users. This is Steam’s first record in the new year, but it follows three other highs all achieved in March last year when worldwide lockdowns had only just started due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Of course, not all 25 million were in-game....

Steam Next Fest: June 2022 Edition runs through June 20 and alongside demos, developers are taking part in livestreams to discuss their upcoming releases. Developed by Montpellier-based BlueTwelve Studio, the game will feature exploration, puzzle-solving, and even “fast-paced action” from the perspective of a cuddly kitty. Revealed in its current guise at the PS5 showcase event, Stray was first shown many years ago as “HK_Project” but has grown significantly since then. Tommy Francois, VP of editorial and creative services at Ubisoft, has officially left the publisher. Francois, together with longtime executive Maxime Beland were put on administrative leave in June following several allegations of misconduct. This makes Francois the sixth longtime, senior staffer to have left Ubisoft over the past few weeks. The growing list includes VP of editorial Maxime Beland, chief creative officer Serge Hascoet, Canadian studios managing director Yannis Mallat, HR director Cecile Cornet, and PR director Stone Chin....
