Sony has announced this morning the results of its second quarter for FY2020. The period covering July to September saw sales of PS4 slow down, but was nonetheless record-setting in revenue for PlayStation. The console has now shipped 113.6 million units worldwide since its introduction in late 2013. The actual, sold-to-consumers figure is likely lower, of course, but that is already an impressive record for PS4. You may notice that this is roughly a 1....

In the latest corperate strategy meeting presentation, Sony announced that the PlayStation Network currently generates a frankly eye-watering ¥1,833.8 billion (that’s over $14 billion) in sales per year. That number is up ¥800 billion (or $6.27 billion) from 2021. The company noted that over 100 million monthly active users contribute to this staggering number, as Kenichiro Yoshida – CEO of Sony Group – extols the virtues of having a loyal consumer base attached to a monthly subscription service....

The annual event will be held online August 7-9, and it’s dubbed QuakeCon at Home. Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, a bundle of the core game and the Winters’ Expansion, releases the same day. To get the 6.5 million of you who’ve bought the game pumped for the expansion, new footage of the DLC premiered at Tokyo Game Show, and it showcases Ethan Winters’ new animations in Third Person Mode. These changes are starting off with Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella being out in charge of the franchise going forward. His new position comes on the heels of DICE GM Oskar Gabrielson exiting the studio. Another change in leadership puts Halo designer Marcus Lehto in charge of bringing more to the franchise by starting a new studio in Seattle focused on bringing more storytelling elements to the series. His new studio will work alongside DICE as well as Battlefield Portal developer Ripple Effect, which according to GameSpot is “developing a new Battlefield experience in the Battlefield 2042 universe....

Revealed during today’s gamescom Opening Night Live event, wannabe pirates can pre-order the game now to claim the “highly exclusive and entirely useless Horse Armor” for use upon release. The game finds Guybrush Threepwood, the leather jacket salesman, pirate-extraordinaire, and intrepid hero embarking on a new swash-buckling adventure through the Caribbean. He is determined to uncover an elusive secret and will meet up with old friends and foes along the way....

Housemarque’s 2021 third-person shooter roguelike has been rumored for PC for what seems like ages, but now we have confirmation that it’s coming to the platform in early 2023. For the PC version, there will be an array of tweaks and upgrades, with PC specifics detailed later. If you are unfamiliar with the game, it stars Selene, stranded on a dark and mysterious planet called Atropos. She finds herself stuck in a cycle of horror and death while trapped in a time loop....

Riot Games is offering a bounty to players who can find exploits in the company’s Vanguard anti-cheat software which has been deployed for the company’s new shooter, Valorant. According to Riot, those who find exploits within the software, which leverages a kernel driver to combat cheaters, could earn between $25,000 and $100,000. The company is asking for “high-quality reports” which represent “practical exploits leveraging” the vgk.sys kernel driver. The actual bounty paid out depends on the impact and practicality of the exploit presented, and the exploit must work on the latest version of Vanguard....

This comes almost seven years after the game’s initial release, as it continues to maintain a passionate community of players enraptured with the title. Neo Tokyo, one of the game’s pre-existing arenas, is getting a makeover in season six. This time around, the stadium will be themed in a comic book style. This will be immediately available at the start of season six and will provide a much needed change of scenery to players as they soar across the sky and miss easy shots on goal in their ranked games....

One of such stories comes from Sam Barlow, the designer of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and creator of Her Story, Telling Lies, and Immortality. Taking to Twitter following the news of Musk buying Twitter, Barlow shares that he was once asked to put Her Story in a car, for zero payment aside from ’exposure’. “Tesla once reached out to ask to put Her Story in a car. I asked how much they would pay for the license, and to cover the engineering work - they suggested zero, and that I consider the exposure I would get,” Barlow’s tweet reads....

According to the studio, the delay will help it make several changes based on what it has heard from the community. Steam users can play dinosaur blasting game Second Extinction in September when Early Access becomes available. Alongside the news, the developers provided details to IGN regarding the game’s War Effort, which is an interactive, “community-driven environment” where players can expect new content “that evolves over time.” “The War Effort is an integral part of how we’ll introduce new dinosaurs, missions, and more as a live service experience, and it’s a feature we’re excited to fully flesh out throughout early access," said Systemic Reaction....

The Japanese website for the Nintendo Switch-exclusive RPG from Atlus apparently listed a November 11 release date for the fifth title in the highly-acclaimed cult franchise, before it was taken down (thanks, PersonaCentral). Shin Megami Tensei 5 was announced back in January 2017, and we’ve heard precious little about the RPG since then. At least we know we’re getting an English translation of the game, though. If you’re keen to know what the premise of this game is, a few vague pieces of information have been leaked by the website update, too....

But that’s probably not Skull and Bones’ biggest problem. The game – which was supposed to launch in 2018, then again in 2019, then again in Ubisoft’s 2020/2021 fiscal year – has had a very difficult development period. And it’s all been fairly public, too. But, gritting their teeth, raising the sails and determined not to be hoisted by their own petards, the staff at Ubisoft Singapore and the publisher at large have persevered and finally got something with the Skull and Bones label ready to play....
