This casual confirmation came via Yuji Naka’s own twitter account, where he expressed shock at the change in soundtrack in the classic Sega platformer. This, as you can imagine, has left plenty of gaming trivia heads, speculators, or just plain old fans of the fastest hedgehog in gaming stunned. The reason all of this is popping up now is thanks to the recent release of Sonic Origins. This compilation of classic Sonic titles features many retro titles belonging to the series - including Sonic 3....

With Zombie Army 4, Rebellion is solving this problem by expanding its Dead War on all fronts, packing in not just more zombie-pounding action, but new systems, modes, and terrifyingly powerful members of Hitler’s Nazi zombie legion. “One of the first things we wanted to expand on was the metagame,” lead designer Ryan Baker explains. “Well, not expand, but add in, because there wasn’t really anything in the previous games....

One and two were standalone Nazi Zombie DLC packs for Sniper Elite V2 back in 2013, while the third came bundled as part of the remastered Zombie Army Trilogy on current-gen hardware a couple of years later. With four player co-op, a tough, replayable campaign, masses of different types of zombies, and a big fat “4” in the name, it’s easy to draw comparisons between Zombie Army 4 and Valve’s fan-favourite and long-dormant Left 4 Dead franchise....

Late last week, EA vowed to kick off an investigation into the origins of EAGATE, the scandal allegedly involving an EA employee selling ultra-rate FIFA Ultimate Team cards to players directly for thousands of dollars, allowing them to skip the RNG process of opening packs. The attention the scandal received was so big it sent the hashtag #EAGATE trending on Twitter. Now, EA has revealed its findings so far, and confirmed the next steps in a blog post....

The game, a well-acclaimed release that’s part visual novel, part light puzzle, and part RTS, will be making its Nintendo Switch debut next year after a strong performance on PS4. Today, Atlus has also announced that the game has shipped an impressive 500,000 sales worldwide to date. No price point for the Nintendo Switch version of the game has been announced yet, but given that 13 Sentinels started off as a $60 game, and then dipped to $40 due to sales, we could see the title come in a bit cheaper than other Switch games (we’ll see, though)....

Other Game of the Year contenders were Valheim, New World, Cyberpunk 2077, and Forza Horizon 5. Cyberpunk 2077, a 2020 release, was also included on the voting docket which seems a bit odd since it wasn’t released in 2021, but, didn’t release until December 2020 so maybe that’s why. Cyberpunk won Outstanding Story-Rich Game, beating out Life is Strange: True Colors, Resident Evil Village, Days Gone, and Mass Effect Legendary Edition....

Tunic My Game of the Year for 2022 is Tunic. From my first interaction with the game (where I granted it five stars, surprise, surprise), I have been besotted with Finji and Andrew Shouldice’s mysterious action-adventure gem. The game – immediately recognisable to anyone that grew up with retro Zelda-like games, and instantly appealing to those that didn’t – is a love letter to the sense of mystery you got when you picked up games as a kid and couldn’t immediately parse what was going on....

In earnings calls, publishers usually give some forward-looking statements, but those are typically limited to just the following year. Take-Two certainly did this with its Q4 reveal, but the company also decided to tease its content for the next five years. Across all of Take-Two’s labels, the publisher plans to release a whopping 93 games by the end of March 2025. According to analyst Daniel Ahmad, 63 of those will be “core” experiences, with 17 “mid-core” games, leaving 13 as arcade/casual games....

Ad Infinitum puts you in the shoes of a German soldier fighting for their sanity as they try to navigate the hell of the First World War. The atmospheric first-person game mixes the surreal and mundane, all brought to life in stunning visuals - which we see a glimpse of in today’s trailer....

In case you missed out on one of 2022’s best games, Pentiment is a narrative adventure game where you play as Andreas Maler, a journeyman artist in the 16th Century. While the game, at first, seems to be about completing your apprenticeship at an abbey in a small Bavarian town, the plot quickly thickens into a knotty murder mystery. From there Pentiment is all about investigation, character-defining choices, and a race against the clock to find the truth – or at least a version of the truth that best suits your goals....

“At Relic, I had a passion for both history and the real-time strategy genre. That’s why I could not have been more excited to have helped build a new part of this beloved and iconic franchise,” said Duffy in his post. After a long tenure at Relic, he finally became design director of RTS games in 2010, capped off by the release of the well-received Age of Empires 4. Known for franchises like Company of Heroes and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, Relic Entertainment has been one of the few torchbearers for the flagging RTS genre in recent years, only now getting a renewed push thanks in large part to how popular Age of Empires 4 was at its release....

For comparison, that number is double what Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition saw, and it looks like the game is finding its player base well given that it peaked today at 73,928, putting the game in the top 20 played games. Meanwhile, its sales put it ahead of hits like Back 4 Blood, Phasmophobia, and New World. The game always had the lingering question hovering above its head on whether real-time strategy games have a place in the current PC gaming landscape, and these numbers seem to emphatically indicate that they’re poised for a comeback, or at the very least that there’s an audience for them now....

Microsoft’s 343 Industries says that all of the sandbox content shipping with Halo Infinite on launch is in the game and just needs to be polished. In the lengthy Inside Infinite update for January, the studio said that this content was 90% finished, with the team spending the coming months fixing all of its problems so that it is ready to be shipped. “[The Sandbox team] is super busy,” lead sandbox designer Quinn DelHoyo said....

But the $150 million animated movie never came to fruition. “I’m comfortable talking about it, because f–k them at this point,” McElhenney said on the podcast Happy Sad Confused. “I thought one of the greatest assets to Minecraft was they didn’t have a fixed narrative. It was an open world experience,” McElhenney explained. “All you were essentially give was the building blocks to do whatever you want. I thought, what an amazing tool, much like Legos except now you’re talking about infinite possibilities because it’s digital, to give to kids–and not just kids, but any person who feels powerless....

Horror fans, take note – Capcom is offering us our first look at what ray tracing will do for the genre in a new demo at AMD’s Radeon RX 6700 XT showcase.
